An herb is a plant which by definition does not produce cellulose or lignin in the stem and roots. These compounds are particularly wood fiber and impart rigidity and strength to the stems \/ branches \/ roots of trees and shrubs. The stems of herbaceous plants are more like grass, stems that are more flexible and malleable than those called Woody.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Cornus canadensis<\/em> for his stem is woody at the base only contrary to common herbaceous plants. The other species of <em>Cornus<\/em> in Quebec (<em>C. rugosa, C. obliqua, C. stolnifera and C. alternifolia<\/em>\u00a0) are mostly trees and shrubs except <em>C. suecica<\/em> is a herbaceous as <em>C. canadensis<\/em><sup>1<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"hps\"><span lang=\"EN\">You can<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN\"> <span class=\"hps\">easily recognize the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">four<\/span><span class=\"atn\">&#8211;<\/span>time <span class=\"hps\">by its small<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">greenish-<\/span>white <span class=\"hps\">flowers,<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">often<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">heavily<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">ribbed<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">oval and<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the number of<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">four to six<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">leaves and its<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">red<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">globular<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">fruits<\/span><sup><span id=\"result_box\">1<\/span><\/sup><\/span> <span class=\"hps\">(Figure 1).<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">The literature mentions<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">several times that<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the fruit<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">is edible<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">dogwood<\/span>, <span class=\"hps\">but<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">without elaborating<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">more on<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">taste and<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">culinary uses.<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">As<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">against<\/span>, <span class=\"hps\">wherein<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">core<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">is<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">so hard<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">as<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">unsightly<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">identified as<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">a<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">limitation<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">to<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">its<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">use.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_840\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-840\" style=\"width: 750px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-840\" src=\"\/\/phytochemia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/20140823_133907-750x422.jpg\" alt=\"Figure 1 : Cornus canadensis.\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-840\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"legende\"><strong>Figure 1 :<\/strong> Cornus canadensis.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Very little literature addresses the accepted four-time biological activities. An article published in the <em>Canadian<\/em><em> Journal of Plant Science<\/em> states that the leaf extract of <em>C.<\/em><em> canadensis<\/em> demonstrate antibacterial activity at low to moderate<sup>2<\/sup>.
